Guira Merengue Theory

One can say Guira is an easy instrument to get a hold of, its lightweight and small size surely make it irresistible to those curious for getting a piece of the fun.
From factory it brings along commonsensical features making its ergonomic body easy to manage.
It's also the one instrument that's very easy to play wrong, and hard to play correctly.. Why hard to get it right ? Because of Sound Deception.
Despite the high number of enthusiasts demonstrating their skills whenever they get a chance and take part in adopting the title of Guirero (Guira player) , for  professionals, playing Guira is certainly NOT considered a personalized exhibition.
Unfortunately, Guira has become the instrument of choice to those that feel that basic understanding is all that's needed to play Merengue correctly.
There are some who associate playing Guira with a sense of freedom, and think of it as  the instrument that's allowed  to roam and wander generously unreservedly without a sense of order or a system to follow, as long as timing is not compromised.
This is the part that confuses the many that don't understand the role of the guira completely.
Surprisingly enough this is the very same part many believe understand the most, from those learning, to the very best professionals ...
When in fact the Guira is not a compliment in Merengue, therefore its responsibility is absolutely NOT PARTIAL.
A Guirero has the task to remain loyal to the primordial theories of Merengue, instead of playing as he sees fit.
But that's a topic in and of itself.
